Halla was born and grew up in Stormsong Valley on the island of Kul'tiras. Her family were all druids, and so she was no exception. However, unlike the rest of her family who's magic is tied to that of the Drust, Halla's is different... As a child, she almost lost her life to a mysterious illness, and her mother (who was also a Drustvar Witch) performed a ritual to save her. As a result, Halla's powers are infused with life. Her tattoo is a mark of that ritual.

Gilnoruil was the only viable egg between the union of a black dragon and a netherwing on Outland. After his mother's death at the hands of Gruul the Dragonkiller, Gilnor was subjected to bullying and abuse from the rest of the suspicious black dragons. He never knew or met his father. His treatment made him cold and resentful. When Sabellian's brood travelled to the Dragon Isles upon their 'awakening' on Azeroth, Gilnor joined them, looking for a real home and possible acceptence.
