Gilnoruil's start in life was an unhappy one. His 'monster' features were seen as a bad omen by the village he was born in, and since his horns erupted before his birth, his entry into the world resulted in his mother's death. Around the same time, some other wider tragedy affected the village. Gilnor's father never recovered from the loss, and whether intentional or not, took it out on his son. Gilnor was never physically neglected, however, being feared and shunned by most including his caregiver had a lasting effect.
At the age of five, he ran away from home. Thinking that monsters might 'like' him where people didn't, he found himself in a Rathalos nest. There he was found by the Nychus Unit hunters, who took him in and later decided to raise him as their own.
As a hunter, his favoured weapons are dual blades (primary) and insect glaive (secondary).
